I have had a lovely 4k projector for several years but lately it hasn’t been turning on. Called Antonio to see if he could check out the power supply and he saw me a half hour later. I was pretty sure there was no power but just to check, Antonio reseated the plug in the device and turned it on. Duh. Somewhat of an embarrassment for me but boy was I glad I hadn’t paid Optoma to ship it to their maintenance dept. Great, quick, friendly service.

There was a time when you would deal directly with the owner of a small(er) retail business. Well, those times still exist at Capital Sound. Antonio was always quick to respond and truthfully dedicated on making sure I received white glove service. I tried to purchase a some speakers, they never got shipped. I’ve tried contacting the owner by email and phone. Spoke to him once he said he’d get back to me, a week later I left a voicemail. I assume they aren’t in stock and the order was cancelled. But honestly I have no clue what’s going on. I was told the owner was on vacation but this was a couple of weeks ago. I’m a patient guy but my patience has run out. I’m sure this a great shop but my experience has been dismal.

One of the worst customer service experiences ever. I will do both an offensive and defensive side here just to be fair because I know a reply will come, that will probably be just as empty as the promises made.

Last August I took in a Denon Bluray player to be fixed upon the premise that it could be done. In retrospect, Capital sound is not an authorized Denon service provider and that should’ve been my first red flag and on me to following through with this. The player had stopped playing Bluray discs, yet it would play DVDs and CDs, other techs telling me that it sounded like a laser replacement. Didn’t sound so bad or difficult to fix.

I felt confident because the guy seemed to know what he is talking about so I ran with it. I never got any follow up after a couple of weeks so emailed about it, with not reply. So I called and he answered and claimed he didn’t get the email but received one I sent at that moment. He said he would get back to me with an update the following day. I didn’t receive any call. And this was the pattern for the NEXT 10 MONTHS!

I’d call, leave a message, I’d text, I’d email and would never get reply back unless he answered the phone directly. Always with the same claim, that it was in the shop and that he'd get back to me the following day, yet never following up. He even claimed at times that he thought that it was actually fixed. Well where is the notification? All I ever wanted was just an update, is that so hard?

We did have a hear to heart and I asked just to be updated to which he agreed and owned and then he gave me some spiel about the parts being shipped from overseas and that he didn’t know when they would be in and when it could be taken care of. Fine, I could live with that. In my defense, this was Denon’s downscaled flagship for a Bluray player so I didn’t want to let it go or lose it.

Then the same thing went on for another 5 months, so our conversation really didn’t matter much. Finally I had enough. This past June and said I was going to come and get it and take it to Microland. There was no argument and the 2 days later I went to get it. He met up with me, cordial and polite as usual but on his phone, We went in and my unit was there, with the drawer oddly partly sticking out (again, it would play things before, just not Blurays) so I thought that a bit weird.

I get home and go to plug it in and hit the Open button to have the drawer partially come out and jam and start grinding and then stop altogether. It was more busted than when I took it in. At least I could’ve played other stuff on it before, now it was really F’d. Needleless to say I sent a nasty email in my frustration asking him WTF and that he was unbelievable. I looked on Ebay to find parts and what would you know, there were parts available and ready to order for this unit(eyes rolling).

So that following July on a trip to Toronto I took it to Microland (an authorized Denon SP, there is also one in Montreal but NONE in Ottawa) who took care of it within a month. On another trip in Sept, I retrieved the unit and when I get it back, I find that I can no longer connect it to the internet and that the AL24 processing light is no longer lighting up. FFS…I put no fault on Microland for this as these were not issues I asked them to look into and it is impossible for them to have made more damage considering their status. Also, the AL24 requires a Denon link to test it. These are issues that stem from Capital Sound.

This just goes to show you the negligence, incompetence, and unprofessional manner in which this business operates. I have never had such an experience with anything before. Again, I should’ve not went with an unauthorized SP for Denon, but also, service providers have to refuse service that they can’t or shouldn’t do and STOP LYING. Be constructive and make a reference! You have a responsibility as well. I do expect a rebuttal that will be BS. I can’t speak for the legitimacy of the numerous positive reviews, despite, my experience was far from anything positive!

I don’t write reviews about my experiences with online retailers, however this time I’m going to make an exception. I ordered a Denon unit from CapitalSound.ca after reading glowing reviews about service being great, I felled good about my purchase. What possibly could go wrong… After a few days without any updates about my order I found out that the owner was on vacation. I was asked to wait a bit. Several days has passed and nothing, so I have reached out again. After pleasant conversation without any information about when or if my order might be fulfilled. Once again, (silly me) I decided to wait a couple of days, no response at all. After two unanswered emails I came to conclusion that I have had enough of it. And to be perfectly honest it felt like I was begging someone to take my money. After all the item I ordered is widely available from other retailers. And this little episode is the description of the worst experience I ever had since I have been shopping on line.

I had an old record player from the 1960s that had stopped working for whatever reason. I had tried to fix it on my own without success. I brought it over to these guys and after taking maybe a 5-minute look they knew exactly what needed to be fixed which was something so simple they were able to do it with an exacto knife in 2 seconds. My record player now works and I'm so pleased! Would absolutely recommend these folks!! Thank you so much!! I am currently listening to some Billie Holiday records and couldn't be happier ?
