Kay Ceramic and Design — located centrally just off Peninsula, Ucluelet’s main commercial street — is a working studio plus store, which attracts the attention of locals, as well as visitors, including Ucluelet’s fine dining establishment which has purchased plate-ware from this tucked away gem.
It is set to extend its reach this September by curating a west coast Pottery Show from Sept 1 to 13 @ The Orange Door Gallery, under the auspices of the Pacific Rim Arts Society, to which it has invited potters in the region to come together to show their creations.
Its invite has received an enthusiastic response from 15 ceramic artists, & this initiative could be the first steps to setting up a potters’ guild.
The show’s opening is on Sept 3 from 6 to 9 pm & will included musical guest Ed Hunt.
This 1st annual show is likely to lead to many more, given the level of initial interest.

I bought a lovely dimple mug, a decal and a Liz Miles coffee print. The store smelled very nice and there was quiet post rock music playing. Very calm place.

You can find pieces in some other shops around town but the studio is a gem. Many beautiful objects and goods with a friendly studio pup!
