Diane offers a wonderfully inviting and encouraging space to learn and practice myriad techniques for creating art with clay. She is a patient and passionate instructor - her love for both teaching and pottery a perfect combination to enhance the skills of beginner to experienced potters.
Over the years, my time at eARTh Studios has waxed and waned as life has allowed, but Diane has always been so welcoming when I have a chance to return. And whenever I do, the joy pottery and the time in this studio brings to me fills the many many cups I endeavour to make 😂 💜

I can’t say enough positive things about Diane and Earth Studios! I stayed in the suite and did a mini residency with Diane for 2 weeks, during my first trip to Canada from the UK.

I had full access to the studio, as well as such valuable lessons with Diane. She was kind, fun, patient and so knowledgable.

I love how Diane likes to find out your personal passions, how you create and what you’re looking for, and crafts lessons to best suit you. It was fantastic! I learnt how to throw on the wheel, hand-build, as well as trimming, carving and under-glazing.

And what an amazing place to learn too - the garden studio is so beautiful and packed with inspiration, and the views are incredible. You can tell a lot of love goes into crafting such a creative space.

Really excited that friends of ours are now moving to this area, as I’ll definitely be back next time I’m across the pond!

I had a great experience with Diane! I booked a series of three lessons, which included a critique of my tableware. As an intermediate-level potter, I truly valued her expertise and insightful guidance, which helped me refine my throwing technique. I’m excited to return to my own studio and put these new learnings into practice and I hope to visit her studio again when I'm in the Nelson area. Highly recommend!

The beginner pottery class is something special. Deirdre was our teacher for the 6 week wheel introduction and she was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and talented. I've been hooked ever since and attending Diane's open studio at least once every week. Open studio is a lot of fun, you can observe potters at every stage of experience and walk of life, and when you're lucky, Diane will buzz in and create some kind of masterpiece while explaining the connection between the earth, the arts, the mind and the body. Diane has created an incredibly welcoming environment and community for you to come and create in. It's a whole experience that I cannot recommend highly enough.

eARTh studios is a wonderful addition to the Nelson community. The owner, Diane, is a very skilled potter and teacher, and is just a lovely person to be around and connect with. She has created a beautiful space to practice pottery and feel like you’re part of a community. I attended the 6-week beginner course in winter 2024 and really enjoyed it. I’ve since continued weekly self-directed learning in open studio, where I’ve noticed progressive improvements in my technique. The beginner course set a strong foundation for me to continue to learn on my own. I will definitely be continuing with the intermediate course. I’ve also met many other wonderful potters in open studio. If you’re considering picking up a new hobby, or improving your skills in pottery, I highly recommend Diane, Deirdre, and eARTh Studios! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I just completed my first beginner wheel class with Diane, and I'm hooked! Diane has such calming energy about her, and she leads a really fun yet grounding class (and you'll learn a LOT!). As an added bonus, her property and studio are beautiful! I learned so much in my 6 sessions, and I was pleasantly surprised how well my bowls and mugs turned out with no prior experience making pottery. I highly recommend Diane for any course you may be considering!
