I first met Nick pre-covid at his location in the OPP building and brought my acoustic guitar with me and asked him if lowering the strings could be done and he looked at the guitar said that it could. Due to many injuries to my fret board hand to every finger over the years plus arthritis setting in, in my thumb, so if I wanted to continue to play and play better I had to do something. Lowering the strings was the first step and that helped some. Since that time I had a re-fret and custom bridge installed and the strings set to where Nick had them initially. Fast forward a few years. I decided to take some guitar lessons with Nick recently and mentioned that I was having some difficulties keeping the strings pressed down and having a clean sound again. Nick suggested that he could lower the stings a little more 1/64th of an inch. I will circle back to this shortly.
The second thing was doing something about the arthritic painful swollen thumb. I cannot take aspirin based products including pills or creams due to being on blood thinners. After doing some research on CBD creams etc. other creams didn't work. I bought a container of CBD 2000 mg cream which smells like all other creams, it is not cheap about $65.00 and can be bought at any cannabis retailer. I rubbed some on the thumb all over and within an hour I had no pain at all and after a few days the swelling started to go down considerably. You do not need a lot. Now I use it sparingly. Apply it an hour or so for it to absorb and it does not get you high and you can wipe off any residual cream after that. Now back to the guitar. Nick lowered the strings by 1/64th of an inch and when I got it home and started playing I was in total shock not only was I able to play easier but the sound of the guitar had also improved. I found that I was not only playing longer but enjoying it. I wasn't playing just to get through, I was playing and looking forward to it. So if you are having similar issues talk to Nick and see if lowering the strings can help you. And if you are having hand issues like me perhaps the CBD cream can help you. Thanks Nick for your consultation.

Nick shares his love and passion for music extremely fluidly and enthusiastically with all his students and colleagues. No matter your age, musical talent, or time commitment, Nick treats everyone the same and helps them reach their musical goals in a positive way. Nick has all his student's best interest in mind and will make every lesson a good time - no matter what mood you are in when you walk into his studio, you will ALWAYS leave with a smile! I have had the greatest time learning from him and love to joke that each session is not just a music lesson, but also a touch of musical therapy.

I have worked with Nick on two projects, the first time was when I was filming a short video on Nick & Benton, and the second was when I hired him to do Post-Production sound on a documentary. A calming influence and very knowledgeable, he went above and beyond, adding SFX and mastering the audio on my documentary. Beyond that, he is fun, friendly, and a great collaborator. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

Was one of Nick’s first students when he opened several years ago in the old library building. Being self taught on guitar i had never experienced taking music lessons and after many years away from playing was anxious to get back at it.
From the beginning Nick has been fabulous. The most upbeat, positive and supportive personality you will ever meet.
Nick’s lessons are not boiler plate but tailored to the individual’s tastes in the music and guitar techniques which they wish to learn. I so look forward to my Thursday afternoon sessions with Nick.

Nick is a wonderfully adaptable guitar teacher. As an mature student just starting guitar but having played another instrument years ago teaching me must be a challenge. Yet every lesson leaves me feeling motivated to continue. Nick adapts the lesson to what I want to know next but still finds ways to get me to work on things I need to do to advance overall. I highly recommend Nick as a guitar instructor.

I always look forward to my lessons with Nick. I have learned so much from him over the past couple of years and I have definitely seen progress in my guitar skill journey. Nick is the best guitar teacher ever - very encouraging - yet always challenging me to step out of my comfort zone.

I had the pleasure of taking a couple of excellent online workshops with Nicholas during the pandemic and that experience led me to sign up for the week-long Improvisational Guitar course through Fleming College last July. Not only is Nick an excellent player with a deep knowledge of music and guitar, but he can clearly articulate that knowledge to people with diverse levels of ability and understanding. He's also a super nice guy! I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to learn with Nicholas.
