I came across this place when I signed-up to Marcello's digital fabrication course. Marcello is a great guy & a dedicated instructor, and the course itself was a compelling combination of woodworking basics, CNC programming & execution. As part of it I got access to the workshop itself which is essentially a community of experienced people eager to help, assist, support and just be a good company. Obviously the workshop is littered with cool machines and enthusiastic people who help you use them - I was able to buy lumber from a nearby mill, then joint, plane & cut to size very quickly and accurately. This is a great place for hobbyists! To be fair, I also met with professionals who used the place to start their woodworking business, but I can't testify to that being a hobbyist myself.

Highly recommended for woodworkers or curious people!

I really enjoyed the Digital Design and Woodworking Workshop with instructor Marcello Nicolo. He was very knowledgeable and supportive. He dedicated time to answer questions and ensure we achieved all the course objectives. I came in with no experience and gained both woodworking skills and CNC essentials. It was a very enjoyable experience, and I would highly recommend the space and course for hobbyists.

This place is fantastic. There is something for everyone! Glass Art, Welding, 3D Printing, Laser Etching and Cutting, woodworking and the nicest group of people you could meet. Definitely worth dropping in. Loved the atmosphere, the Co Founder was even in and had been working on his own project! It's very friendly and super helpful here. Come and visit and spend some time in a class! Don't hesitate, this is a gem near Main st.

I have been taking the 6 week Pottery Wheel Class with Catherine and I have to say she is absolutely amazing!! The class size is perfect, the facility is exceptional and we are all having so much fun! Only at week 2 and have already made 3 bowls and 3 mugs.
If you are looking for something fun to do I would highly reccommend her and the place. They have tons of amazing programs.

Terrible treatment by their staff. I do not recommend this place at all. I signed up for a course here but unfortunately found out before the course even began that my workplace required a commitment from me during the same hours as this course. I immediately emailed and called these guys multiple times to notify them and asking if I could be removed from the course and be given credit/full or even partial refund. They would not reply to me. My emails would be ignored and when I called they would tell me that the instructor Kate will call me but she never did.
Eventually someone named Yasaman answered the phone. I explained my situation to her and how I have been emailing them for days and no one is replying to me or helping me. She proceeded to raise her voice and cut me off mid sentence. She even got the class I was talking about wrong so when I tried to correct her she yelled at me to "stop talking". I asked her name multiple times and she would say "none of your business", finally when I just asked her why she was speaking to me like this she gave her name. She continued to be extremely disrespectful and condescending to me. I hung up the phone and burst into tears. I had wanted to so badly to attend their pottery class and was really sad to find out that my workplace required something else of me during that time. I just wanted someone to help me cancel the class. Not only did their staff repeatedly ignore me for days as I desperately asked them to help me but they belittled and yelled at me when I did get a hold of one of them. If these are the type of people and businesses you want to support then go ahead but hopefully you wont encounter a life event that may require you to obtain customer service from them because they will ignore you and bully you. There are a lot of workshop businesses out there that have kind, helpful and honest people. Go support people that are kind and willing to respond to you and respect you. I wont be retuning here and have warned my close ones to not come here. I was never refunded or responded to in the end. I disputed the charge with my bank which thankfully has better customer service than these guys.

EDIT: The owners response seems to indicate that they made all these offers to me while I was trying to contact them. This is incorrect. The offer he is describing below was given to me AFTER I posted this review. Their website stated ""For multi-session workshops, no credit will be offered or allowed after the start of the of the first session" it did not indicate how many hours prior to the beginning of a class someone is permitted to reach out if they have a life event that makes this commitment impossible. Also I just think its good customer service to try and work with customers that are deeply interested in your business but something just came up and they need your help. No need for all this anger. I think reading the tone of my review and the owners response speaks for itself regarding who is the one being aggressive. Given their dismissal of my treatment by their staff and the tone used in conversation I personally don't feel comfortable or safe going there. Again this is just my experience and I have no reason to be making any of this up and have never had a desire to create any problems for these folks. Just sharing my experience is all. I wish them the best.

After years of wanting to take advantage of this work space, I enrolled in Newmakeit's woodworking 201 course with instructor Chris Tucker. (My review is pertaining to the course and wood shop space only, as I did not make use of the metal work or pottery spaces)

The course was well organized: the first class was an intro session to ensure familiarity with the shop equipment as well as establish guidelines for the individual projects and provide generic plans to choose from as starting-points, each with a shopping list.

We were given suggestions of where to purchase our lumber and flexibility in order to control our project pricepoint. I really liked that we were given flexibility to adapt or change the designs to suit our needs: ultimately I wanted to invest the time and money into a project that would find a place in my home and so I was supported and encouraged in modifying my design plans.

With the intro class and purchasing done, we were able to hit the ground running on day 2 of the course.

I would encourage anyone taking a course here to budget time to make use of the complimentary drop-in membership during the course time frame. I did come into the shop on 3 occasions outside of class to keep on track with my progress.

We had quite a few (12) participants in our course and this meant the occasional time waiting to use specific equipment but I also found once our projects got underway, students naturally fell into our own stages of progress and this meant we didn't really have too much waiting around for equipment. Chris was also particularly good at offering alternative approaches / equipment to use to accomplish a task, or even consifering the various approaches to the work flow of a project. I also did not find the class size was a problem for Chris when it came to providing individualized support to students...he was always making rounds and checking in with participants throughout sessions.

The administrative staff at Newmakeit are also supportive and available and provided friendly service. I found between the staff and other hobbyists in the shop, there was always support to turn to whenever I dropped-in to work outside of class time.

With the course under my belt and a comfort and familiarity with the workshop, I would comfortably take on a part-time membership here and make use of the space and equipment for the next project I take on in my personal time.

Highly recommend getting familiar with this space and its staff and opportunities!
